Because nearly everything is better in groups of 3, we divided the workings of our goal achievement software into thirds:

Eyes on the same prize

You’ve got the vision, now it’s time to reveal what’s in your head (scary, we know!) and out in front of your teams. The app walks execs and business owners through the process of setting long-term goals.

Aligning objectives to goals

Setup guides help teams draft good objectives that align to overall goals. Team members work together to write SMART objectives. We don’t like acronyms, either. Sorry about that!

Prioritize work

All work isn’t equal. Teams decide the high-priority work that will produce more “points” than less valuable work, while keeping attention on the lesser stuff that still needs to get done.

Who’s doing what

Clearly define roles on work projects, using the app’s RACI model (responsible, accountable, consulted and informed). The next time we use an acronym you have our permission to KILL this page!

Cross-team communication

A “subscribe” feature offers insight into what’s going on with other teams. This is very useful for understanding when the folks across the hall are gonna make a sushi run.

Boss and peer review

Get the boss to buy-off on your objectives. Then when her hair catches fire you can have a conversation about priorities.

-- DO --

Start the clock

Ok, so like any game, there needs to be a start and an end. Could you imagine watching a 70-0 blowout for 12 quarters? Most teams set the “play clock” to one quarter, the three-month variety.

Frequent scorecard updates

Teams own their objectives and take charge to update them whenever or wherever they are (is there cell service in the South Pole?). Scorecards instantly reflect changes. Go team!

Team comparison – Who’s in for a friendly competition?

With visibility across the organization, teams can see how they’re faring vs. other teams. Everyone starts the game period at zero points and can max out at 1,000.

Real-time rewards

Annual reviews seem so yesterday. With MyObjectives, individual “players” and teams receive instant gratification by winning various badges and awards when they accomplish objectives. Right now!

Adjust to business changes

Like a hitter adjusts to a pitcher, you’re able to fine-tune team scorecards to the curves business throws at you. Sure, everyone would like to hit 1,000 points but that’s not always attainable. Team managers can downcast their forecast. A final score of 700 or more is considered the “success zone.”

The thrill of victory

Everyone likes to see their team scorecard in the success zone – above 700. It’s a great time to celebrate. Anybody want to kiss a trophy? Slap a few high-fives and get ready for the next game.

Learning informs the next game

For two weeks after the final scorecard teams meet and discuss what happened. The app documents the good and the bad. Key questions are asked: What did you learn? What could you have done better? What will you NEVER do again?

Ready for next

Equipped with the knowledge and experience from previous quarters you’re ready to craft a killer game plan that’ll produce a more successful game. Use the key info captured in the app to begin. See “setup” above.
